writing for first press

Publishing through first press offers academic authors the advantage of a website backed with unquestionable academic expertise, to which readers have open access. It is a quick and simple way of early publication, which does not preclude and may even enhance subsequent print editions.

proposals

First press is interested in receiving proposals within the spirit of the the global site's objectives. Submitting work is straightforward: email the editors with a developed proposal, or a broad indication of your idea.

  • On receipt of your proposal, we will email initial comments.

  • We aim to come to a decision on whether to invite a submission within 1 calendar month.

  • Where we invite a full submission, you should send your text as an email attachment in the format that we will advise, and we aim to take a decision on publication within a further 2 calendar months.

  • Where (after peer review of your text) we propose revisions, we will aim to communicate these to you immediately and take a final decision within 1 month of receiving your revised text.

formats

Since our aim is to publish quickly, ahead of the print journals, and work is often produced in both Harvard and traditional footnote formats, we don't make a uniform mode of referencing a requirement for submission.

However where papers are submitted with footnotes, these will only be made available within the PDF version.

© copyright

Copyright in first press publications remains with authors, who are free to seek other forms of publication. The editors may also invite authors to include their works in print editions developed from the site.
